Less risk, more confidence
The Financial Management for Humanitarian and Development Professionals Guide (FMD Pro Guide) was developed and made possible thanks to the support of the FMD Pro Development Advisory Group.
Finance DPro provides NGO and social sector professionals the opportunity to improve their financial management knowledge and skills. The Guide is a resource that is intended to enhance the professionalism and standards of anyone working at a project level. It focuses on the fundamentals of financial management in the context of projects in development, humanitarian, and conservation sectors. It will give you, the project team member, a firm foundation for managing the finances of your projects. It provides a contextualized, comprehensive, and adaptable resource for anyone managing project finances in these sectors.
Establishing high standards in financial management benefits organizations and projects on many levels. Here are some of the most persuasive reasons for getting it right:
- Enables effective and efficient use of resources to achieve goals and fulfill obligations to all stakeholders
- Promotes accountability to funders and other stakeholders
- Encourages the respect and confidence of funding agencies, partners, and beneficiaries
- Provides an advantage in the competition for increasingly scarce resources
- Prepares the ground for longer-term financial sustainability.
The FMD Pro Guide and certification have been launched on May 2017. On April 2020 the guide and certification have been handed over PM4NGOs by Humentum and the supporting organizations to promote and share them through the development and humanitarian sectors.

These quick guides for busy readers are a good option if you would like to first read a brief introduction to our guides, accessing an overview that will help you to decide if the full guide is suitable for you, your organization, and your team.
Please remember: these are not the full guides and reading them is neither enough as preparation for certification exams nor application of their tools and techniques. They will give you a good overview of each guide and will help you to decide if the full guide is suitable for you, your organization, and your team.
